The Simple Prayer to Save Your Life

Today’s Five Minute Friday prompt is Safe.  I’ve poured out my words from a tired heart of keeping my children safe today, glad to lean on Jesus.   Go:

I’d just hit send on a piece about how Jesus keeps us safe. A guest post submitted and I knew I would be tested on it’s thesis.
No harm shall befall me, no disaster shall come near my tent. Psalm 91:10

(Read this interview with Peggy Joyce Ruth, sharing tons of testimonies from praying this Psalm)pray like a boss2

Provision to keep us and our possessions safe, and don’t ask me how it applies to the situation in Syria, I’m not a theologian. I just know what Jesus has done for me, even today, when my 8 month old rolled off the bed and hit the ground hard. I heard the thump from the deck and it took me a moment to register that Miss 3 was still sitting at the table, and I ran. And prayed Jesus, Jesus, Jesus over her silent screams giving way to bellows. No harm befell her.Name of the Lord Strong Tower

The Name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are saved. Proverbs 18:10
I first heard it in song in Papua New Guinea, ladies dancing with palm branches praising. Then that night clutched it tight in my heart as riots broke out in the streets on pay day, and Dad slipped pen knife under pillow.  That time it was Dad and Me in PNG.

I’ve been clutching it tight again. You know that time when I lost too much blood giving birth and was slipping away. That time my husband had a stomach bug that landed him in hospital, passed out in the front seat of the van, as I pressed accelerator down hard, and I felt it coming over me. “Jesus is the boss of this bug,” and over and over I declared that by His stripes I am healed. Over and over till I fell asleep and didn’t catch that bug.

That night when the baby’s temperature soared on Christmas eve, and projectile vomited the baby paracetamol across the room, and I clutched her to me at midnight and prayed Jesus Name over and over and in a heavenly tongue too. I gave it ten minutes of Jesus, hands laid on and praying persistent. Then I would have taken her to emergency but the fever broke.

Jesus keeps us safe, and I don’t understand martyrdom and persecution, I just clutch hard the promises to keep us safe.

  1. I read your post about 30 minutes ago but had computer issues and could not leave a comment 🙁 But I returned 🙂 Like you, I am so grateful that the mere mention of His Name brings peace, comfort and safety. May we keep holding onto His promises and praying His Name.

I think this is my first time here so may I say, “It is very nice to meet you!”
Glad to be your neighbor this morning at FMF. Blessings!

  2. Lizzy, I’m so glad to have read your post this week. I’ve been sick with a stomach bug myself. I’m over in the 62 spot this week.
